What is hypnotherapy?

During a session, you enter a calm, relaxed state — similar to the feeling just before you fall asleep — which allows us to work with the subconscious mind to explore unhelpful patterns and develop healthier responses.

Will I be in control during hypnosis?

Absolutely. You remain fully aware and in control throughout the entire process. Hypnosis is not something that is done to you — it is a collaborative process. You can stop at any time and you will not say or do anything you do not want to.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Most people can experience hypnosis to some degree. The key is a willingness to relax and engage with the process. People who are open to the experience and motivated to make change tend to respond particularly well.

Is hypnotherapy the same as stage hypnosis?

No — they are very different. Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is a professional, evidence-informed therapeutic process focused entirely on your wellbeing and goals. There is nothing theatrical or performative about it.

What does hypnosis actually feel like?

Most people describe it as a deeply relaxed, comfortable state — similar to daydreaming or the moments just before sleep. You are aware of everything around you but feel calm and at ease. Many clients say it is one of the most relaxing experiences they have had.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

We begin by talking through your goals and what you would like to achieve. I will then guide you into a relaxed state using a gentle induction, before using a range of therapeutic techniques tailored to your individual needs. Sessions last approximately 90 minutes and you will also receive a personalised recording to listen to between sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients work with me over around five sessions. Research suggests it takes approximately four weeks to break an old habit and a further four weeks to establish a new one, so a course of sessions gives you the time and support to create lasting change. That said, every person is different and we will always discuss what feels right for you during your initial consultation. Smoking cessation is offered as a single specialist session, though some clients choose to book a booster session afterwards for additional reinforcement.

What is the free telephone consultation?

Before booking a session, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. This gives us the opportunity to discuss what you are hoping to achieve, answer any questions you may have, and make sure hypnotherapy is the right approach for you. There is no obligation to book.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

There is nothing specific you need to do. Simply come with an open mind and a willingness to engage with the process. It can help to think about what you would like to achieve and what positive change would look like for you.

Will I receive anything after my session?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every client receives a free personalised MP3 audio recording following their session. This is designed to reinforce the work we have done together and can be listened to in the comfort of your own home, as often as you like. Regular listening between sessions helps to embed positive change more deeply and supports the progress you make in the therapy room.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions take place from my private therapy room in Dorking, Surrey — a calm, comfortable and completely confidential space in the heart of the Surrey Hills. Online appointments are also available for those who prefer to work from home or who are unable to travel.

What are your fees?

A standard hypnotherapy session is £120. Smoking cessation is available as a specialist single session for £260, which includes a personalised MP3 recording to reinforce your success — some clients also choose to book a booster session afterwards. A free 15-minute telephone consultation is available before you book. A £20 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your appointment, which is deducted from the cost of your session.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for children and young people?

Yes. I work with young people as well as adults. Hypnotherapy can be particularly effective for children and teenagers dealing with anxiety, confidence issues, sleep difficulties and other challenges. Sessions for younger clients are adapted to be age-appropriate and are conducted with parental consent.
